W. Sidney Smith is a successful entrepreneur in management, investment and real estate development.

Mr. Smith was appointed to the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees in January 1991 by Governor Engler and was reappointed to complete a term that expired in December 2000. He graduated from CMU in 1965 and worked for General Motors Corp. and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He was president of W. S. Smith Co. in 1968, and chairman of the firm in 1990. He is currently President and CEO of Smith Equities Corp.

A former Mt. Pleasant mayor, Mr. Smith has been president of the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce and of Middle Michigan Development Corp., a director of First of America Bank in Mt. Pleasant, and a member of the executive board and director of the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce. He has received numerous honors and awards including Mt. Pleasant's Citizen of the Year in 1993, Northeast Regions Easter Seal Society Volunteer of the Year in 1989. He is an Honorary Inductee into Beta Gamma Sigma, a National Honor Society in Business Management.
